Juha Miettinen Obituary, Nürburgring, DE Car Crash Death: Veteran Car Racer Has Died

Juha Miettinen has died following a devastating multi-car crash during Saturday’s race at the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers, leaving the motorsport community in mourning.

The incident occurred during the opening hour of the NLS4 race at the Nürburgring, where a seven-car collision in the Klostertal section prompted an immediate red flag. Race control halted proceedings without the usual sequence of caution flags, signaling the severity of the accident as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Miettinen, 66, was driving the No. 121 BMW 325i when the crash unfolded. He was extricated from his vehicle and transported to the Nürburgring Medical Center, where, according to officials from ADAC, he died despite extensive resuscitation efforts.

In an official statement, ADAC confirmed the fatality and noted that six other drivers involved in the crash were taken for medical evaluation. Fortunately, none of the others sustained life-threatening injuries.

The race, part of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), was suspended and ultimately not resumed following the incident. Organizers announced that Sunday’s scheduled race would proceed, but only after a moment of silence honoring Miettinen’s life and contributions to the sport.

A respected and familiar figure in endurance racing, Miettinen was a regular competitor in the NLS and had recently secured a class victory in the previous NLS3 event. His experience and passion for racing earned him admiration throughout the paddock.

The tragedy has cast a somber shadow over the event, with teams, drivers, and fans reflecting on the inherent risks of motorsport. As tributes continue to emerge, Juha Miettinen is being remembered not only for his achievements on the track but also for his enduring dedication to the racing community.
