French actress Nadia Fares has died at the age of 57, days after a serious accident at a swimming facility in Paris, her daughters confirmed in a statement to AFP.

According to reports, the incident occurred on April 11 at a sports complex swimming pool in Paris, where Fares was found unconscious underwater after reportedly remaining submerged for several minutes. She was immediately rescued and rushed to hospital, where she was placed in an artificial coma at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital.

Despite medical efforts, her condition did not improve, and she passed away on Friday, April 17. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident has been opened, though authorities have stated that no safety violations have been identified at this stage, according to French media reports.

In a heartfelt statement, her daughters, Cylia and Shana Chasman, announced her death, describing her not only as a respected artist but, above all, as a beloved mother. “France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is first and foremost a mother that we have just lost,” they said.

Fares was widely known for her work in French cinema, gaining recognition early in her career, including her role in the film The Demons of Jesus. Over the years, she built a reputation as a talented and expressive screen presence.

Tributes have begun to pour in from across the film industry and the public, remembering her artistic contributions and expressing condolences to her family.
