The Hooligan family, alongside the wider community, comes together in profound sorrow to honor the life of Staff Sgt. Daniel Putnam, a young man whose service, dedication, and character left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Daniel, a proud member of the North Dakota Air National Guard, passed away on April 5, 2026, at the tender age of 21. His loss is not only a heartbreak for his family and friends but also a great loss for his fellow service members, who deeply respected him. Daniel was a native of Frazee, Minnesota, and later made his home in Fargo, where he joined the 119th Wing in 2021. From the start, he earned admiration for his professionalism and commitment to excellence.
Serving as a Cyber Defense Operations Specialist with the 119th Operations Support Squadron, Daniel’s contributions were critical to maintaining secure communications vital to both the state and national security. His work may have been behind the scenes, but it was indispensable. His dedication to his role was reflected in his focus, intelligence, and responsibility, qualities that made him a valuable team member.
Outside of his military career, Daniel had a bright future ahead of him. In 2025, he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from North Dakota State University. At the time of his passing, he stood poised to take on new challenges and make an even greater impact in the world.
Daniel was more than a colleague—he was family to his fellow Hooligans. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. His memory will be carried on in the hearts of those who served alongside him, in his family’s pride, and in the legacy of service he leaves behind.
