The community of Mount Gilead is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of John Walker, a 43-year-old man who lost his life in a devastating two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Morrow County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred just before 5:45 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 24 and County Road 228 in Peru Township. Investigators reported that a Honda Accord traveling southeast on County Road 228 failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with a Jeep Wrangler driven by Walker, who was traveling southwest on County Road 24.

The force of the crash sent both vehicles off the roadway. Authorities stated that the Honda continued beyond the point of impact and struck a tree, sustaining heavy damage. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Walker was pronounced dead.

Officials confirmed that Walker was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Honda Accord, who was properly restrained, was not injured. At this stage, investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
