Portage Township Schools Lockdown Following School Shooting Threat
Portage Township Schools in northwest Indiana were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after a threatening phone call prompted a swift response from law enforcement.
At around 11:10 a.m., authorities received a call at the Porter County Central Communications Center from an unidentified person claiming to be armed with both a rifle and handgun. The caller said they were outside Portage High School and intended to carry out a school shooting. Shortly after the call, the individual stated they were going to enter the school before hanging up.
In response to the threat, all schools within the Portage Township district were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. Officers quickly began searching Portage High School for potential threats.
Fortunately, after investigating, police confirmed there was no evidence to support the claim of an active shooter or any real threat to safety. Despite this, the lockdown remained in effect as officers continued to investigate the situation. At the time, authorities were stationed outside other Portage Township schools as a precautionary measure.
While no immediate danger was found, the situation highlights the ongoing concerns over school safety, with officials emphasizing the seriousness with which any potential threat is handled. Authorities continue to urge caution and remind the public to report any suspicious activity to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and the lockdown is lifted.
