Towson University Robbery Suspect Arrested After Self-Inflicted Gunshot

Towson University officials and Baltimore County police reported that a man was arrested Thursday night after injuring himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound during an attempted robbery on campus.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., Towson University Police responded to reports of gunfire in a stairwell of Tower C, located in the 150 block of Cross Campus Drive. Officers discovered the suspect with a non-life-threatening injury to his lower body. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators confirmed the man was not a student at Towson University. According to county police, he discharged his weapon while committing a robbery, striking himself in the process. No other injuries were reported. Authorities emphasized that the incident appeared isolated, though charges are pending as the investigation continues.

University officials stressed that firearms are strictly prohibited on campus and announced an immediate review of safety protocols. The timing of the incident has heightened concerns among students, as the university prepares for its annual TigerFest weekend.

Student witnesses described confusion and fear as emergency responders flooded the area. Videos shared online showed police cars, ambulances, and the suspect being loaded into an ambulance. “It was just kind of scary because you don’t know what’s happening. All you know is shots are fired, someone got shot,” said junior Edwardina Beeko.

Concerns about campus security were raised, particularly regarding residence hall access. Students noted that community center assistants, often fellow students rather than trained security personnel, monitor entrances. “I’m not going to frisk anyone, we’re not like actual security,” said Beeko.

Police have not confirmed whether the suspect was signed into the building or had a specific target. Officials urge anyone with information to contact Baltimore County Police at 410-887-INFO.
